Mission Statement
Inspired by the Christ Child and
with the direction of Bishop Daniel Jenky, C.S.C., we provide layettes for newborns in
need, thereby supporting those who have chosen life in spite of difficult
circumstances.
Who We Are
The Central Illinois Chapter of the Christ Child Society is
a volunteer organization that was initiated by the Most Reverend Daniel Jenky, C.S.C., Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria in 2005 and chartered in 2008. Presently there are active circles meeting in
Peoria, Bloomington, and Pontiac.
Our goal is to support those families who have chosen life for their
newborns, sometimes in the most difficult circumstances.
Our members donate their time and talent to assemble
layettes, which are given to at-risk families for their newborn babies. Items are hand made when possible and
purchased when necessary. All items
included in our layettes are new and size-appropriate for newborns. Hospital social workers and/or nursing staff
determine need and distribute accordingly. The first layettes were delivered on
Mother's Day 2006, and since that time over three thousand have been given to
newborns in need.
In addition to our active members and non-members who donate
their time sewing, knitting and crocheting for us we also have a prayer
apostolate composed of those who support us with their daily prayers for the
success of the mission of the Christ Child Society and for those that we serve.
Funding is a constant challenge as we depend primarily on
donations, grants, fundraising activities and membership dues. We work diligently to keep our administrative
cost low.
